Vinaros possesses a fishing port which origin is so uncertain as that of the own city, which goes back up to the Iberian settlement of The Puig. It is known that in the 13th century a farm-house existed on the banks of the sea known as “Beni -Al-Arus” and that in the 16th century, his commercial shipping activity was one of the most important of the Mediterranean, possessing a few big dockyards, where big ships were constructed. By this port there embarked more than 15000 moriscos expelled from the Kingdom in 1609.
